Inspired by Pinterest!

Hello all,

I love Pinterest a lot because it has become a source of inspiration for my creativity.
 But not just for making papercrafts but also for paint colours for my home.

I found this picture on pinterest and I liked it a lot. I saved the picture on my desktop. I love that striped wall and wanted to paint a striped wall for a feature wall in my house. When time came, I spoke to my painter friend and together we went for three different shades of grey. Below are a few pictures of how my striped feature wall came about.

First painted gloss white as I wanted the white to pop out and not be in the background. Then measured and masked using the masking tape. This step took a white to get it done. And then painted three different shades of grey. Three coats and I was getting impatient as I wanted to strip the masking tape off to see the result.

I had to wait over night to do it. I was filled with excitment peeling the tape off.

And after a few touch ups, here is my beautiful striped wall. It turned out amazing. A few neighbours saw it driving through and came in to look at it. They all loved it. We were so excited. The rest of the house is the lightest grey with white trims. Here are couple of more photos:)

Hi Everybody,

Today post is all about how I interpret a picture into a card. I have had emails from a few of you asking me how I do this. I will try to explain to you as best as I can.

This is a picture I found on Pinterest. Pinned it immediately

Two things struck me when I saw this picture. 

First:  The bright colours of blue and pink tulips and green against white.

Second: The geometric pattern on the blue canvas. I knew that Hip To Be Square large stamp from Paper Smooches is perfect for it.

Keeping those two in mind, I started out to make a card. Now for the tulip, I had Flower Fusion Tulip stamp set from PTI. Gracious Vases larger version will work with Tulip but my set is still in transit, so I will make do with what I have.

 Since the geometric pattern is bright and modern,I wanted to keep everything on my card clean and  modern. So a modern tulip stamp set, a font which does not have swirls or curves and a solid colour cardstock was the way to go for me.

Now to determine the layout of my card. I like the blue canvas in the picture with the pink tulips in front of it. So I am going to keep that for my card. I heat embossed the Hip To Be Square on Tempting Turquoise cardstock and trimmed into a rectangle panel.I then stamped and cut the tulips and layered on the blue embossed rectangle panel using foam squares. I chose a very simple birthday font sentiment from Inside Out Birthday stamp set from PTI. Stamped on white piece of cardstock and adhered sideways. See the books on the picture? That was my inspiration for the placement of my sentiment strip.

Now, just the blue panel with flowers and sentiment on white cardstock by itself did not look good. There were too many vertical elements, the vertical blue panel, flowers all vertical and the sentiment although placed on the side, was still vertical. Finally the card base is also vertical. To balance all the vertical elements, I decided to use a horizontal panel in bright pink - same colour as the tulips. Now the card feels balanced.  I placed all the elements a bit lower on the card front and not right in the middle because I like the open white space. Eyes are still drawn to the flowers, patterned blue and bright pink panels. I would say my card is complete and ready to photograph and publish.

 It is not always possible to use a picture to make a complete card. At times I use a picture just for the layout of my card or use just the colours to make my card. I then add sentiments and focal points according to the requirement for a challenge or theme.

Hello Thursday! Good Morning!

 Today is my Inspired by Pinterest day.
Here is the picture I choose from Pinterest

Supplies:

Cardstock: Stampers Select White and Clear cardstock from Papertrey Ink, Basic Black and Pretty Ink Pink from SU and Textured cardstock from Bazzill

Stamp sets: Faith and Hope from Papertrey Ink and  Inspired By Butterflies from MFT

Inks: Archival Jet Black Ink and Memento Black Ink

Accessories: Butterfly die from MFT. Brackets die from CC designs and circle dies from Craft Concepts and pink copic sketch pen.

I die cut the butterfly using clear cardstock and white cardstock. Stamped the butterfly image on both. Coloured the cardstock butterfly with pink copic sketch. Then I cut the butterflies in half. I diecut and stamped the pink ribbon. I then layered the clear cardstock and white cardstock butterfly diecuts and adhere them to the pink ribbon using glue dots. To frame this, I used a diecut circle frame.
A sentiment within the brackets to highlight its importance. Thats is all. You can decide to raise or not to raise the butterfly. I have raised mine using foam tapes. Hope you like it :)

Cardstock: Stampers Select White  and Canyon Clay from Papertrey Ink.

Stamp Sets: Decorative Doilies and Extra Time from Uniko Studio

Accessories: Rhinestones from Kaisercraft.

I guess this is one of the easiest inspiration. You can use any doilie stamp to get this layout. You can also make vintage card using traditional doilie stamp and traditional colours. A modern stamp using say a modern doilie stamp and colours. You can change colours or also make a set using the same layout but in different colours. So here you go, a very easy & cool inspiration for this week. Hope you like it :)

Simple card but love the impact of the ripped edges. Imagine the colour combination and texture possibilities you can add to the card. Cannot wait to make variations :)

Cool! Welcome Saturday! Gorgeous day today. Woke up very early. In-laws left this morning to Perth. Fight out of the country tomorrow morning:) House is slient and a lot of cleaning done this morning :)

So here I am with a cuppa of coffee and writing this post :) Last two days were busy so I couldn't not post my Inspired by Pinterest on Thursday. Here it is.

I love love the colours on the picture above and the hanging lamps are so beautiful. Then the stars on the wall is awesome. So those are my inspirations. For the colours, I wanted a bit more than the grey and green. I chose, ColourQ #137 colours to make my card.

Here is my take on the picture and the colour challenge.

Stamp sets: Lighten Up and Out of limb additions from PTI

Inks: Orchid Opulence, Tempting Turquoise and Kiwi Kiss from SU and Momento Black Ink and Colourbox Frost White ink

Accessories: White embossing powder, heat gun, grey twine from twinery and Corner Chomper.

Love the colours agains the grey. Looks like Grey is my new white lol! Need to more grey cardstock though!

It is Inspired by Pinterest day of the week! Gosh it is becoming difficult to choose an inspiration because there are so many on Pinterest. I am pinning like crazy. This is my inspirational picture for this week.

I loved the different  retro coloured camera print. I went through my stamp collection and found that I had two camera stamps. So I set down to make a card with those stamps and here is what I came up with.

Supplies:

Cardstock: Bashful Blue, Wild Wasabi, Close to Cocoa and Daffodil Delight from SU, Plum Pudding, Autumn Rose, Hibiscus Burst from PTI Textured white cardstock.

Stamp set: Fillable Frame#9, Imaginance Camera and Amy Tangerine Love Stuck Stamp Set.

Inks: Archival Jet Black ink

I love the different coloured camera against the blue background. A graphic card and love how it turned out. I am still looking for more camera stamps because I want to make a frame out of it. I love the old camera with the big flash and the winding camera as well :) I am hoping to find such stamps. Please let me know if you know of any stamp set with camera in it.
 Anyway, hope you like my take on the picture!

Ok! Thursday of the week and it is time for another Inspired by Pinterest challenge.

This time I was inspired by a scrapbook sketch I found at Pinterest, originally from Two Peas In a Bucket website. I think it is a digital layout. It was intriguing for me and I wondered how can I make a card using it.

Inks: Basic Gray, Poppy Parade from SU, Lime and Papaya inks from Amuse Inks and Archival jet Black ink.

Accessories: Circle Punch.

I love the graphics on the card. Also enjoy using multiple stamp sets on on this card, about five or six stamp sets in all. Very happy with how it turned out.

Love the colour - Green, Navy and Grey. Most of all I like them against the white background. When I saw this, I immediately thought of  Woodgrain Silhouettes Additions from Wplus9 and Turning a New Leaf from PTI. 

So here is my take on the picture.

 Today is Thursday! Another Inspired by Pinterest fun challenge. This is a scheduled post as I am currently driving to Perth. It is school holidays and a few days away to the city will give me a good break. Also we wanted to show my in-laws Perth City and the surrounds. 

 

Anyway, this is the picture, I was inspired by this week.

I love the cityscape with sky/cloud painted inside the silhouettes. Just darn innovative and artistic. I wanted to recreate it the moment I saw it. I am not good with paints but tried my best :)

So here is my interpretation of the inspirational picture.

 

Supplies:

Cardstock: Stamps Select White from PTI

Pattern Paper: Basic Grey White Basic and Pink Gelato from Kaisercraft

Stamp Set: Birthday Inside Out from PTI

Inks: Tempting Turquoise, Pixie Pink and Perfect Plum from SU, Stazon Black Ink

Accessories: Tag from PTI, Citiscape die from MFT, Silhouette die from Marianne Design Creatables Charleston Lady, rhinestones from PTI and twine from twinery.

I was digging through my supplies and came upon some paper pads which I forgot I had. Lucky for me, Kaisercraft's Pink Gelato papers coordinated beautifully with the colours of the evening sky on the silhouette. So after a very long time, I have used pattern papers on my card. And shocking to me, I have used pastel colours! They do look nice. I don't know why but I do not use pastel colours so much. I love bright colours a lot. But every now and then I surprise myself and use pastel colours. Love it. Hope you do too.

What I did with the silhouette is, I layered cityscape dies and adhered them under the silhouette piece. Cut a scrap paper the same size as the silhouette die cut piece. I placed it under the silhouette piece and marked the outline of the silhouette. Then I painted blue and violet colours on the scrap paper. When dry, I adhered the two pieces together. Isn't it beautiful?  Wish I drew some birdies. But I am happy with what it is now.

I love the layout of this invitation. So I took the layout and the colours are my inspiration and made my card.

I also wanted a modern version although the inspirational picture is classy and elegant. So used PTI's Dot Spots Stamp set to make my card instead of doilies.

Here is my first "Inspired by Pinterest" fun challenge. I have been doing this myself for sometime and in my last post I asked if you would like to join me making a project of your own using the inspirational picture I pick. I received a great response and I am very happy to get it started today :)

I love the shaded bright butterflies on white background. I think I have plenty of butterfly stamps and wanted to give this a try.
 What a beautiful card it will make?

Stamp set: Beautiful Butterflies and Pretty Peonies from PTI

Inks: Melon Mambo and Basic Black from SU

Accessories: Corner Chomper

I used rock and roll technique on my card. Inked the butterflies first on Melon Mambo and then rocked the edges with black ink and stamped.  Love the impact it gives on the butterflies :)
